The Economic Impact of War: Ukraine, Russia and Africa
Harvard University's Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies will host a talk on the impact of war in Russia, Ukraine, and the African continent.
The Economist’s Intelligence Unit recently estimated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will cause the Ukrainian economy to contract by 46.5% this year and it will not fully recover until 2037 at the earliest. Russia’s economy is expected to shrink by 10% in 2022 and will probably recover more quickly. But this war will have ripple effects far beyond the countries immediately involved, in part because the export of commodities like wheat and fertilizer from the region will be seriously affected.
