In this episode of Sean's Russia Blog, host and Eurasia expert Sean Guillory speaks with Shaun Walker, former Moscow correspondent for the Independent and most recently for the Guardian. Walker's new book, The Long Hangover: Putin’s New Russia and the Ghosts of the Past, delves into the reasons behind Russian President Vladimir Putin's success in restoring Russia from the tumult of the 1990s. Walker's book takes particular note of the role that memorializing World War II has played in aiding Putin's effort, and also provides an account of the war in eastern Ukraine.
