Nov. 19, 2018, 12:00pm-1:00pm
CGIS South Building, 1730 Cambridge St., Room S354, Cambridge, MA

Join Harvard's Davis Center for a talk with Vladislav Inozemtsev on his conception of the "Putin Moment," a trend originated by Vladimir Putin in which policymakers capitalize on popular fears and ignorance in order to clamp down on their societies and perpetuate their powers. Inozemtsev cites such figures as Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Victor Orban, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in his assessment of the "Putin Moment" in the current global political atmosphere. Dr. Inozemtsev plans to discuss the grounds for this new trend, how the trend differs between established Western democracies and former authoritarian countries and the trend's prospects for sustenance and internationalization.

Speaker:

Vladislav Inozemtsev, director, Center for Post-Industrial Studies, Moscow
