Roundtable: Putin, Gender and the 2016 US Election

March 28, 2017, 4:15-6:00pm
Room S354, CGIS South Building, 1730 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA

Join Harvard University's Davis Center for a look at the role of women's and gender issues in the discourse surrounding Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

Much has been made of the issue of Russian interference in the 2016 election. How have women’s and gender issues been part of this discourse? How have images and concepts of masculinity and femininity played into political campaigns in Russia, Eurasia and the U.S.?  What is the new “traditionalism” and why is there a backlash on gender and LGBTQI issues?  Participants will address the current debates as well as the historical background of Soviet and Russian policies in relation to women and people of all genders.
